We visited with Shamime this morning. She was a student that came to the HFC training center with no computer experience. She earned an Office Applications Certificate, and this landed her a job at Magwa primary school as a secretary. We visited her to see how she’s doing.
Her peers and her superiors rave about her abilities and call her the local “computer wizard”.
We spent a lot of time interviewing Shamim and meeting other members of the school staff who gave us a tour of their facilities. We were treated to a performance from the music department where we saw traditional song, dance and drums.
We were also shown the school’s “computer room”, which had power outlets and electricity but unfortunately no working computers. Their computers were ancient Pentium II’s which were no longer in working condition. We offered to help with computer repairs, provide scholarships for their teachers to attend free training at our training center, and offered to clean and upgrade the computers they use in their office.
The headmaster, Joseph, was excited about the prospect of training but told us the teachers wouldn’t be able to attend since the teachers are overworked as it is and typically work day and night. Because of this, we are going to try to build some training machines for the teachers to use at the school and provide on-site training.
Enjoy the photos. We have snaps of Shamim, the HFC graduate (hard at work), the music class, the ancient computers in the “computer room”, the crew filming recess and various shots of excited students having their photos taken.
