Spent the day (9-3) in court with this case with our tech. Our lawyer didn’t show up at nine and his phone was off so we didn’t know where to go or what to do. When his phone came on at 9:45, he told us he was in Lugazi and our case was at eleven. So we all left and came back at eleven.
When we returned the state prosecutor found us and told us the case was at nine and we missed it. I explained everything and he said our lawyer was wrong and we missed our trial. I went immediately to the judge to tell her we were in fact here (and had been since nine) just so they wouldn’t drop the case thinking we weren’t around. She was understanding and explained where we were supposed to sign in.
The state prosecutor told us to wait for our lawyer and he might be able to be heard today. Our lawyer’s phone finally came on at 12:00 and told us he was just out of court in Lugazi, 45 minutes away and argued with me for five minutes that the case was supposed to be at 11:00. #DohMakeNoSense.
Out lawyer never showed. At 2:20 we finally got a “hearing” where I told my story, another witness told theirs and the tech got to ask questions. It was wrapped up and we were told to come back with all the witnesses on July 14 for.. Something.
The tech asked to talk to me and I waited around but the guards eventually took him away while I was asking the lawyer what that was.
I never got to speak to him so I’m guessing he’s back in jail.
It’s such a shame because he’s a really talented guy. He’s also spent so much money bribing and running. If he had put that money (borrowed from friends) towards his debt he likely wouldn’t even be in jail.
