After all the discussion about what machines we should use for the classrooms we’re installing in Uganda this year, I found myself back to the netbooks. The reason: operating system (we need to teach Windows), price (<$300 with a Windows XP home license), and size / weight (we ship by putting these in our suitcases… we need better shipping options. Anyone know a shipper that can lend us space from the US to Uganda via Mombassa?)
Then when I found these machines at $200 (refurbished) instead of the $300 we budgeted, the deal was sealed. I ordered the units (the song while I was on hold if you remember?) and went about the buisiness of preparing for the trip.
Well the units finally arrived, and when we unpacked them, I looked at the stack of them and smiled. Acer. Empowering people. It would seem hackers and Acer have a lot in common.
Hi,
Maybe will be interesting to contact WFP ICT(World Food Program) the ICT team is acting in that region.
